A Time to Come

We invite you to join us on December 6, 13, and 20 at 6:00pm for supper followed by service at 6:30pm to remember the season of Advent. What is Advent? If you’ve never heard of it, you are truly missing out but have no fear, now is the time to come! Advent is a lost church season in most places. It is a time of preparation, repentance and joyful expectation as we look forward to Christ’s return. The season of Advent comes from the Latin word Adventus which means coming. Jesus is coming again. That is what the season focuses on: Jesus’ second coming. As one colleague commented, Advent reminds us that Christmas might not happen again.

As we dig into Advent it is a season in which we are called to repent for Christ will come again. Each of our Gospel texts in this short four-Sunday Advent season drive this home: Matthew 21:1-9, Luke 21:25-36, Matthew 11:2-11, Luke 1:39-56. Matthew 21 reminds us that Jesus came into this world to save sinners. Luke 21 reminds us that this world will end and yet Christians do not despair on the last day but rather we lift up our heads and rejoice for our redemption is near. Matthew 11 delivers to us that John’s message prepares the world to hear Jesus. It concludes with Luke 1 as we hear of John leaping in the womb of Elizabeth at the voice of the Word made flesh and Mary proclaims the Magnificat for Jesus has come with mercy to save us.

Along with these midweek services, we invite you to join us at 9:45am for Sunday School and 10:45am for the Divine Service on Sunday morning to hear the Good News of Jesus Christ. We also have daily chapel services at 10:30am on Mondays and Wednesdays and 8:00am Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.

Finally, come and join us after the season of Advent for the celebration of Christmas. We will have church Christmas Eve, December 24, at 6:00pm and a completely different service with many more hymns on Christmas Day, December 25, at 10:45am. What a wonderful time to be coming to Church!
